Chicago

Since we would be spending our summer in Kentucky, we decided to stop in Chicago on our drive out. It was only about a 2 hour detour.. total. Neither of us had ever been to Chicago, so we thought it would be fun! Plus, it would be a bonus if we got to run into Cam! We spent Friday and Saturday driving a total of 20 hours and 1400 miles. We got to Chicago Saturday night and got checked into our hotel and then went to dinner at PF Chang's, and to Charming Charlie.

We spent Sunday exploring the city. We went to Millennium Park and saw the bean, went to Navy Pier and rode the ferris wheel, had Chicago-style hot dogs for lunch, checked out the Willis (also known as Sears) Tower but didn't go to the top, did a little shopping at the Water Tower Place, and ate dinner at Giordano's and got Chicago-style pizza. It was a very fun, eventful day!

Monday, I emailed Cam to see what his plan was for the day. He thought he would be going downtown, so my plan was to figure out where he was going and try to run into him there. When he emailed, he said that he wouldn't be going downtown anymore and that he was going to meet some other missionaries at a church close to downtown, and then go to a shopping center. So, we searched the closest church to us and waited in the parking lot for about 5-10 minutes. A car with two missionaries pulled up next to us and asked if we were from Utah (they saw our plates) and asked what we were doing there. When we told them we were looking for my brother, Elder Jensen, one of them said, oh Cam? Come to find out, he had just been on exchanges with him a few days prior! So they called up Cam's companion and found out that they were on their way to that church! So we went inside with those missionaries and waited for Cam. He was surprised to see us there, but he had seen our car in the parking lot, so knew we were around SOMEWHERE.. just didn't think we would be IN the church. It was so awesome to see him and we got to hang out with him for about an hour! This church is where they email on pdays, so there were a bunch of other missionaries there as well. I'm so glad it worked out to 'run into him'! :) Luckily, we didn't make him too homesick or sad when we left. We left for Kentucky right after that, which is only 4.5 hours away!
